From the CEO's Desk
It is wonderful to be back at Galambila after a three (3) month secondment to Aboriginal Health & Medical Research Council (AH&MRC) in Sydney. I am grateful for the experience and thank Galambila’s Board for providing me with the opportunity and also Alex Webb for doing a great job as Acting CEO whilst I was away.
On my return I was surprised with the progress of the construction project for the new Reception area. We received funding from the Australian Government for most of the cost, with Galambila’s Board approving to cover the cost of the shortfall allowing us to maximise the space in front of the existing Clinic on Boambee Street.
As we draw close to the end of another year there were a number of Annual General Meetings (AGMs) that I had attended. AH&MRC NSW and the National Aboriginal Community Control Health Organisation (NACCHO) Elections were held this year. Scott Monaghan, CEO, Bulgarr Ngaru, Grafton is now the Chairperson & LaVerne Bellear, CEO, AMS Redfern is Deputy Chairperson of AH&MRC NSW. A youthful leadership team was elected to the NACCHO Board, John Singer, from Aboriginal Health Council, South Australia is now the Chair and Donnelia Mills from Wuchopperen Health Service, Cairns. We are looking forward to a stronger voice to influence Aboriginal Health Policy at both a State and National level.
With Christmas not far off – Galambila will be open (except for the Public Holidays) but staffing levels will reduced as they look forward to a well-earned break. On behalf of the Board and staff of Galambila may this Christmas be bright and cheerful, stay safe and may the New Year begin on a prosperous note.
